The holiday season in the Dallas area will become more festive and Irish with the “Lúnasa: Christmas from Ireland with special guest Ashley Davis” show on Friday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Worship and Arts Center at the First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 N. Central Expressway.  Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for seniors 65 and older and children 17 and younger and can be ordered from the website “”

Lúnasa — featuring Kevin Crawford on flute, low whistle, and tin whistle; Trevor Hutchinson on double bass; Ed Boyd on guitar; Collin Farrell on fiddle and low whistle; and Cillian Valley on uilleann pipes and low whistle — is internationally acclaimed as the finest traditional Irish band of recent times.  They have performed nearly 2,000 shows in 36 countries.  Their seven albums have won many awards and have been hailed as some of the best world music recordings anywhere.  Lúnasa’s featured soloist, Ashley Davis, a native of Lawrence, Kansas, has emerged as a leading singer/songwriter in the Irish tradition, performing as soloist for “Lord of the Dance” and named as one of the most influential Irish Americans under 40.

Students of the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat may be familiar with Crawford, Vallely and Davis.  All three are former instructors at the retreat.  Besides being one of the top whistle/flute players in the world, Crawford is quite an entertaining storyteller and will emcee the show. A merchandise booth will be set up to sell band CDs and other items with an Irish music theme that would make great Christmas gifts.

The concert is sponsored by the Traditional Irish Music Education Society, Southwest Celtic Music Association, the North Texas School of Irish Music and the First United Methodist Church of Richardson.  For more information, email or call (469) 215-1840.
