TIMES conducts instrument, dance and singing workshops throughout the year in our local Dallas/Fort Worth area. They are organized in four different ways:
- They are offered by area musicians/dancers who teach skills related to Irish music/dance.
- They are offered in conjunction with the performance of a touring artist or ensemble. Arrangements are made with these visiting performers to provide workshops while they are in the area.
- They are offered at a festival as an educational component of an event. For example, TIMES organizes workshops at the North Texas Irish Festival that is held in Dallas during the first weekend of March each year. The instructors are selected from ensembles that perform at the festival.
- They are offered at the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat, an Irish music and dance camp held in Midlothian, Texas in late October each year. In addition to core classes, the retreat offers workshops on many topics related to Irish music and dance such as reviewing history, learning by ear, sharing dance steps, understanding modes, singing in Gaelic, recording music, etc.
Plans are underway to organize webinar-type workshops featuring respected musicians and dancers who are also known for their teaching expertise. Those opportunities will be displayed on this page when they exist and promoted on our Traditional Irish Music Education Society Facebook page and other social media.
The fees for workshops vary based on the circumstances of the event. We strive to make the cost either nothing or as little as possible which means we seek financial support from generous supporters to cover our costs. If you would like to donate to TIMES to help lower fees for participants, please contribute by clicking on the “Donate” link at the top of any page.
