About Susan

Susan Toman is a versatile musician who divides her time between the Celtic harp and harpsichord. After briefly studying harp basics in Montreal, she chose to immerse herself in Irish culture and tradition by learning from an Irish master of the harp. After intensive studies with Grainne Hambly in County Mayo, Ireland (and inspired by many castles), Susan returned to Canada and prepared to record her first solo harp album, publishing her arrangements in her book “Dance Tunes & Airs.” Since then she has recorded a solo Christmas album (Angels on High), and an album of Irish and Scottish traditional music (Wide Waters) with singer Ellen MacIsaac. Susan is on faculty at Carleton University and maintains a private teaching studio. Her harp discography includes Road to the Isles, Emerald Shores, Angels on High, and Wide Waters. She’s currently working on a publication for beginner harpists – to be released in early May 2020. Find her on the web at www.susantoman.com.
